We are excited to announce two immediate openings for postdoctoral positions in our lab: one in lithium battery recycling and another in membrane technology with an electrochemistry background.


Location: King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Thuwal, Saudi Arabia
Job Type: Full-Time, Fixed-Term

Overview:
The Inorganic Membrane Research Lab led by Prof. Zhiping Lai at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is seeking two highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researchers to join our cutting-edge research teams. These positions will contribute to pioneering projects in (1) used lithium battery recycling and (2) membrane research with a focus on electrochemical applications. Position 1: Postdoctoral Researcher in Used Lithium Battery Recycling
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead research projects aimed at developing novel methods for the recycling of used lithium batteries.
• Design and optimize processes for the recovery and purification of critical materials from spent batteries.
• Collaborate with industry partners to translate research outcomes into scalable and commercially viable technologies.
• Publish research results in high-impact scientific journals and present findings at international conferences.
• Mentor graduate students and assist in their research projects related to battery recycling.
• Contribute to securing research funding through grant writing and collaborative industry projects.

Position 2: Postdoctoral Researcher in Membrane Research with Electrochemistry Background
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct advanced research in membrane technology, emphasizing electrochemical applications such as batteries, energy storage, water purification by electroreduction, electrodialysis, CO2 reduction, etc.
• Develop and evaluate novel membrane materials and electrochemical systems for enhanced performance.
• Utilize electrochemical techniques to improve membrane functionality and scalability.
• Work closely with interdisciplinary teams and external collaborators to integrate research findings into practical solutions.
• Disseminate research outcomes through publications in leading journals and presentations at scientific meetings.
• Provide guidance to graduate students and contribute to their academic and professional growth.
• Assist in securing funding for research initiatives through proposal development and collaborative efforts.

Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or a related discipline.
• Strong expertise in either lithium battery recycling (for Position 1) or membrane technology with electrochemical applications (for Position 2).
• Proven record of peer-reviewed publications in relevant fields.
• Extensive experience in laboratory research, including experimental design and data analysis.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
• Experience with industry collaboration and technology transfer is highly desirable.
